Your Stars 6 June 2010

Posted on 06 June 2010

Sometimes the planets surprise even hardened astrologers (perhaps, too, astronomers are occasionally startled). Take the situation at dawn this morning; Jupiter, Uranus and the Moon all occupied the same tiny patch of the sky, which happens to be the Spring Equinox point, the very start of the zodiac (aka 0 degrees Aries).

A meeting of Jupiter and Uranus isn’t so uncommon, rolling around every dozen years, but the last time this pair were together in Aries was 80 years ago, so the invention and upheaval associated with this planetary duo looks of a different stripe to what most of us have previously encountered.

On a micro level, these two planets promise an inspirational few months for those born at the equinoxes and solstices (ie 21-24 March, 21-24 June, 22-25 September, 22-25 December). Business as usual looks unlikely.

The new Moon in Gemini arrives on Saturday the 12th at 11.15 GMT. Gemini is a sign of duality and movement, also of intellectual enlightenment, puzzle-solving and dexterity. As Gemini’s planet, Mercury, reaches its home skies later this week, these are qualities all of us might now embrace. With most planets moving forwards through the sky, it isn’t a time for slowcoaches and laggards.

Gemini

Ants in your pants? Geminis are rarely models of serenity – after all, it’s your job to keep the rest of us alert – and this week’s planets are of the ’just do it’ variety. But do what? The short answer is anything that extends your sense of freedom. 2009 was almost certainly a period of restraint and considered purpose. Without throwing over what you have carefully built, you are now in a more open-ended, ‘make it up as you along’ phase.
Other people are, as ever, vital to your cause, but whether your habitual gang has outlived its appeal is one question posed by the new planetary picture. Mobility and the exploration of new social salons (and we’re not just talking public houses) will help you decide this summer. Assess if what or who is coming along now (yup, this very week) represents an opportunity or a provocation. If it’s the latter, don’t over-react (especially 21-23 May birthdays).
Saturday’s new Moon relaunches your personal year in some style; if your birthday is 12 June, you have a splendid omen of imminent change and eminence. Whenever you were born, next weekend is a Gemini-soaked zone. .
Business: busy. Romance: likewise.

Cancer

Make hay while the Sun shines, or rather, make merry while Venus shines – the planet is currently bright in the evening sky, Cancer’s patch of the sky at that. Unruffled, thankful for what you have and playful around people whom you would like to attract is the Venusian ideal – you can get seriously pushy come your birthday month. Planets elsewhere highlight the advantages of staying in touch with your chosen clan (rather than blood family). Try calling in favours. Friday’s new Moon favours a secret resolution.
If your birthday is close to the summer solstice- 21-24 June – here come a roller coaster few months.

Leo

Not before time, the prickly planet Mars is leaving your skies, as of tomorrow, though likely not without a skirmish over the last couple of weeks involving your other half or used-to-be. Rather than get self-righteously regal, it’s a good moment to reflect on 2010’s one-on-one issues and how to handle them – they will be back come your birthday month.
For something resembling the easy life you have to wait a little longer. Planets elsewhere in your ‘scope are keen for you to run around, do public relations on behalf of your betters (and your estimable self of course), and engage with People That Matter. It’s about business and deals, now. Overseas links are incoming. Next Saturday’s new Moon might provide you with a fresh card to play, or at least a decent party.

Virgo

Change of mood music… It doesn’t have to be Holst’s ‘Mars, Bringer of War’, but since the red planet arrives in your sign tomorrow (for a six week stay), something louder and quicker tempo would be appropriate. This summer is a fine time to bang your drum, not least this week when your planet, Mercury, is keen to hook you up with people with whom you can cut a deal. Saturday’s new Moon is a restart moment for your career (not that it’s winding down meantime).
Romance has looked something of a battle recently, at least for mid-September birthdays. Calmer times hopefully are coming, though Mars in your sign is not a signal for passivity but for active conquest. Yup, you.

Libra

Astrological cliché holds that Librans only exist if there is a significant other (or three) to reassure them that they are here. In reality, you are quite capable of isolation when it’s called for, and often wish that others would get off your case until you are ready to rejoin the fray. Librans and mood swings: peaches and cream.
With planets now splashed all over your horoscope, the key to happiness is, uh, ‘balance’. Yes, one-on-one relationships need a refreshing cold shower. Yes, you need solo downtime. Given your Venus ruler in your ‘scope’s most public zone, you need profile, while with a new Moon imminent in your ‘escape’ zone, you need fresh scenery.
How you are going to pull off this balancing act is a puzzle and a half, but it will help if you put aside the mood swings for a rational chat with yourself (or a pal), and take a well-regulated spoonful of everything. Good time to be productive, not laid-back.

Scorpio

The professional heat should simmer down now that your planet, Mars, has finally escaped the intense spot where you have been grilled for the last six months – hopefully you have something to show for your required energy expenditure. The next couple of months involve less target-achievement, more networking and exploration.
Some of the craziness might also be leaving your love life, what with two major planets exiting your crush-zone this very day. There is plenty more flux to come this summer, however; whether you’re in a fandango, a steady partnership or nothing much, don’t stop talking.

Sagittarius

These are early, very early days, but with a rare conjunction of planets now in your fifth solar house (translation, the zone of creativity, showing off and being unapologetically yourself), you can usefully follow your heart rather than your head for the rest of the summer. There are, as ever, restraints on your natural exuberance, notably the need to conserve energy, the pressure from professional rivals (duck these where possible, in favour of solo effort). Oh, and that old foe, money.
Still, you are out of one sticky phase and into a more freewheeling mode that accords with the Centaur’s ‘no sell-out’ attitude. Best not get into ‘no compromise’ mode with significant others just yet, however; next Saturday’s new Moon means you can recast partnerships, albeit with significant compromise. If you’re single, it’s an unfolding scenario where you don’t have to do much but follow your instinct, and others’ leads.

Capricorn

Time for a change. It may not need to be anything too dramatic – you have next month for upheavals – but given today’s memorable planetary meeting at the root of your ‘scope, the family/home set-up is due a re-think. What’s needed will become abundantly clear over the course of the summer; for now, start considering what you would like to alter. The situation is open-ended rather than entrenched.
The immediate future is more concerned with the objects of your affection. Here, voluminous dialogue should sort out any misunderstandings and grudges. Forget expediency – what you pledge will come swiftly back to haunt you. Romance? You seem in the thick of it!

Aquarius

Draw a breath and survey what’s in hand. As of tomorrow you are past a six month head-to-head with one significant other (not necessarily your official partner) and into the next stage, which is disengagement or renewed involvement (perhaps of a highly secretive kind). This applies also to any ‘ex’ lurking in your realm.
Whether your romantic involvements are transparent or not, next Saturday’s new Moon puts you in the place where you call the decisions, rather than your playmate. Be firm with your intentions.
Creative enterprises, the display of your talents and sporting prowess (if you are into anything so non-cerebral) remain brightly starred No need to conform to the usual rules btw, but when did you ever?

Pisces

A transit of Jupiter – such as the last five months – can signal many things: prosperity, getting out of jail, a hefty bout of travel or the arrival of a mentor/teaching post being among them. You are now into an earthier phase, with counting the cash is a major feature of the summer. Caution: the money doesn’t automatically arrive, you must check you have been paid in full, not least for sudden ‘too good to be true’ projects.
This weekend, however it is panning out, has a lesson to offer about those you have your heart set on, or those you can’t seem to escape. In the latter case, you can finally slip the leash!
Next Saturday’s new Moon is an ideal point for a resolution about changing/renovating home. No pressure, but if it’s on you mind….

Aries

The zodiac’s Ram is a famously up-front creature with whom what you see is pretty much what you get. That is certainly the attitude to adopt now. Jupiter’s arrival promises a summer where self-confidence and swagger play well for you. If you fancy a make-over of your ‘look’, that would also chime in with the extrovert cast of your ‘scope. You have finally come up for air.
Highly favourable week ahead for such mundane matters as money, appointments and ticking off the ‘must-do’ list. Your habitual impatience is, for once, a commendable trait. Gee everyone else along, including any crushes you have going on. How long can they hold out?

Taurus

A Taurean’s sticking power is rarely in doubt, but a variation in tactics doesn’t always come so easily. A planetary picture that is now fast moving favours a little fancy footwork when pursuing your aims – skilled oratory (your speciality) comes highly favoured this week, especially Wednesday/Thursday, when Mercury and Moon combine in your skies.
Push boldly onwards even if you seem to be getting nowhere – you are less opposed than in several months, and fresh options are in the frame. Romance? If you’re interested, the next six weeks is a hot zone.

I do enjoy reading your horscopes, and am a health care practitioner and not sure how it is going to affect my career as the Jupiter-Uranus has been meant to bring about huge changes I suppose. Wud appreciate some clarification.

      @GJ
I am no expert on public healthcare, but the UK’s horoscope (set for 1 January 1801, 12.01 am GMT) makes it clear the country is undergoing a seismic shift this summer. Chiron, the tiny asteroid that is reckoned by some to indicate healing, is out of the firing line of the major planets (at 4 degrees of Sagittarius), so maybe the NHS will survive the shake-down indicated elsewhere.

  • Niamh says:

Pretty accurate once again, but, ‘don’t stop talking’… To the person in particular or anyone in general?

  • ADAMZ says:

Me too. So glad I found you post-Observer. You have many fans in Australia. Bit concerned about Capricorn’s “upheaval” next month.

  • Carmel Gibbons says:

Neil, I have really missed your thoughtful horoscopes in the Observer magazine and am glad to find you on the internet. No one else has your subtlety.
    Thank you

  • Cap-on-the-wall says:

Neil, does the Jupiter-Uranus pair affect those born on the equinoxes and solstices dates that you mention alone or a few days on either side as well? Their ‘inspirational influence’ sounds promising :) Thanks in advance!

    • Neil says:

@Cap on the wall. Good question. Those born in the first three/four days of Aries, Cancer, Libra, Capricorn have a direct transit affecting their Sun. As a Sun sign astrologer, however, one has to use ‘whole sign’ transits, as the ancient Greeks did, and Vedic astrologers still do.

  • MarkC says:

There seems to be a Geminian favouritism in your horoscopes.

How come they have 11 lines, compared to 6-8 lines for everyone else? :)

    • Neil says:

You will notice that we are in the season of Gemini, and i think it only right that the month’s birthday boys and girls get a longer reading. Apart from which, sometimes there is more to say for one sign than another. Cancerians got short shrift this week, but not come the solstice!

  • Ramified says:

Thanks for another informative (and relevant!) horoscope, Neil. Always appreciated.

  • Harvi says:

I’m so excited for this week to unfold after reading my horoscope. Thank you!

  • Jenni (Libra) says:

P.S Why do my contributions have “Your comment is awaiting moderation” attached.
Does it mean they have not been reaching Neil? Information would be greatly appreciated, thanks. J.

  • Neil says:

    @Jenni
No, your comments reach just fine. Unfortunately I only have space to show 15 comments at any one time, so not all the comments get published. Rest assured, they are all read and appreciated.
