Your Stars 21 March 2010
For astrology, life begins at the Spring Equinox, when the Sun is halfway between the shortest and longest days of the year and night and day are of equal length.
This year the Equinox arrived at 5.30 p.m. on Saturday 20 March (making it an especially frisky Saturday night for some) though the traditional association that the 21st March is ‘The first day of Spring’ still holds.
The equinox – the start of the month of Aries, the zodiac’s first sign – is an energising phase, though Aries’ energy – ‘act first and ask questions later’ – is best considered, like a new born child, a proper handful.
Aries
Wham Bam, here’s the Ram! The Sun exalted in your skies puts fire in your belly and a touch of craziness in your head. That an element of challenge is also involved will come as no surprise to this week’s birthdays, who have been feeling the none too tender touch of Saturn and Pluto for the last six months. With this pair, you either take a tough decision and make a change or suffer onwards. Any shake-ups this winter (or a year further back for today’s Rams) have been needed and require little second-guessing.
With the Ram’s planet, Mars, back on course, so are you. Impatience, hunger and an urgent need to impress are all yours to express. Romance? If there’s someone you want to win, here’s your chance to play with bravado (especially Thursday). Established relationships? Don’t knock your head against the wall.
Taurus
The arrival of the Sun in Aries, and the most reclusive sector of your ‘scope, means one part of you has to go under the radar, if only until the end of the month. Recharging your physical batteries until the arrival of an event-packed April is one good idea. Attending to neglected issues concerning your home is another; Mars at the root of your ‘scope is now edging forwards after a lengthy spell during which family and domestic duties may have weighed heavily. This week and next promise to yield solutions to what appear intractable problems; patience and persistence, those great Taurean virtues, help here.
Professionally you remain in a promising position; any recent breakthroughs in your public standing, or meetings with big kahunas, need to be followed up. You’re hopefully hanging with some helpful, important and surprising people this spring; your mission is to ensure you’re up to any ask from them. Romance? Time to get a long-running dispute in to the open, if only by gradual degrees.
Gemini
Crunch time or just a little local turbulence? The arrival of spring (and a Sun-Saturn opposition) certainly asks for a cool, detached look at professional plans and in particular a survey of your fellow travellers. Are they truly on your side or just along for the ride? If you ask the question now, you’re promised a rapid response. In general it’s a time for you to be at your most provocative, and to expect a few provocations in return – nothing you can’t handle. Au contraire, the more you mix it with colleagues, friends and even (with care) bosses, the more you are likely to enjoy and advance yourself. Don’t drift, be pro-active.
As you have a ‘Gemini Moon’ (the subject of a moody Bryan Ferry song incidentally) today and tomorrow, waste no time in putting yourself at the heart of the action.
Cancer
Your greatest advantages remain with your most unorthodox ideas and most adventurous attitudes. ‘Exploration’ is spring’s big theme, whether whale-watching in Newfoundland or intensive study in the Sorbonne library. If you can tie in that strand to your professional life, so much the better. As the Sun today sits at the very peak of your ‘scope (as at every Equinox), career issues call. The difference in 2010 is that Saturn’s involvement raises the stakes and asks for a cold-blooded look at your prospects. If the days of cosy employment are gone and you’re at crisis point, a ‘whatever it takes’ attitude is the one to adopt. The fond regard of your personal history (to which, Crabs are prone) should settle on what has truly sustained you in the past; otherwise, yours is a future-orientated ‘scope. Tuesday and Wednesday (with the Moon in Cancer) are excellent for news or for making your mark. Romance? Likely to come with a few rough edges!
Leo
The arrival of spring should be sounding a few promising notes where matters of the heart are concerned. Mars, brilliant in the night sky, is now inching forwards in Leo’s patch of the heavens, and this week aligns favourably with the Sun, your planet. Not that you need a cue to remind people of your fierier qualities, but here’s one anyway. Mars invariably comes carrying a sword, a signal not to so much to get in a fight as to cut away associations that hold you back; the incoming season is about becoming a leaner, maybe meaner breed of Lion.
Venus meanwhile promises to do you favours on the social front (Aries, if they aren’t too combative for you, make a good fit); circulate, especially on Thursday and Friday when the Moon in your skies puts you where you like to be; stage centre.
Virgo
It’s an odd, intense patch of the year, not so much because you have to slave away at work –compared to a year ago, this is easy street – but because relationships call for you to both give more of yourself and to let partners have room to run around and do their own thing. A time of arrivals and departures? Absolutely.
The month of Aries takes new or old affairs to the next level. If money is involved – as in, who pays for what – don’t let yourself be exploited for the sake of expediency. Virgo the soft touch is a role that is so-o over – if you have forgotten that, you’ll be reminded next month. As importantly, you have to feel that you are getting back something approaching what you are putting into any given association – a tricky, intangible equation.
As the Moon is in your skies from Saturday noon, next weekend looks a likely time for such issues to come bubbling to the surface. Good time to put yourself on parade if you’re single.
Libra
Just as you think life is getting easier, here comes the month of your opposing (but oh-so complimentary) sign of Aries to confront you with the justifiable needs (or unreasonable demands) of your delectable other half. Or the demands of the significant other that currently obsesses you (if you are single there are doubtless several from which to select). For September birthdays especially, it looks like quite a moment of choice; not your favourite thing granted, but others will insist on a straight answer.
For all of you the demands of regular, ordered employment versus an overhaul of your lifestyle are the alternatives with which you are juggling. Here, there’s not any ‘correct’ balance, only what you can conjure up and improvise in what looks to be a work in progress.
Scorpio
‘Grinding out results’, as football parlance puts it, is the way to approach work. This spring is actually a time of promise and even dazzle for your career, but with your planet, Mars, still at a crawl, you have to proceed methodically and patiently and show your flair where and when you can. Be pernickety about details and avoid postponing issues. You are just starting to pick up speed. Profile remains a major part of your professional game.
By contrast, your private life (and perhaps the side of your work that relies on you being a flair player or showbiz performer) remains in open, fluid motion. Indeed, the more of yourself you wish to parade, the better. Your more buttoned-up tendencies (and no sign withholds quite like a Scorpio) are best discarded; you are being offered a blast of emotional freedom this spring, and that means making yourself vulnerable. Scary!
Sagittarius
Action stations! The Sun in Aries should set a few bells ringing and remind you that you too belong to a fire sign, and are not just a genial, cerebral creature but a mover and shaker. Go out and scare a few people with your joie-de-vivre and enthusiasm – pet projects and private passions are highly favoured. With Saturn and Mars in the mix, however, remember your mission is self-promotion rather than riling rivals– your success will do that for you.
Romance? One particular foot-dragger is either coming round to your point of view or needs notice served upon them. The emphasis is as much on variety and keeping open your options as on pleasing one particular lover. The next couple of weeks are the ideal time to circulate. Be fiery!
Capricorn
Proud achiever or homebody? The tension between the roles of breadwinner and breadmaker are etched large in your ‘scope. For now, the balance is likely tipped in favour of a vibrant, (if demanding) family agenda, whereas winter’s professional concerns can be quietly sidelined until the autumn, even if tomorrow’s ‘Blue Monday’ (as Fats Domino and New Order dubbed it) argues otherwise. Don’t let a few bumps in the road derail you (as if). December 27 birthdays are those with those most to consider, professionally.
Romance? Fine time for a brand new start for relationships that have lost their intimacy. Recently started flings and flirtations can be profitably pursued and put to the test.
Aquarius
The month of the Ram, bringing fire for your Aquarian air, promises welcome excitement on the social front, and profitable trade if you’re into commerce. Little happens without your active input, however; communicate; wheeler-deal, and soft peddle your wares. In terms of Getting Things Done, the month of Taurus will be way stickier.
While impatience is generally favoured, these are still early days where one Significant Other is concerned – early in terms of getting the relationship back on track that is. The interminable transit of Mars has likely made one present or former partnership an unwelcome epic. Traction is where you can find it; Thursday and Friday move matters along. Single? Plenty to play for, not least next weekend.
Pisces
Decidedly not the point at which to second-guess yourself. Where work and more madcap missions are concerned, simply follow through whatever plans you have put in process or are now instigating. Maintain an element of bravado – even mistakes count in your favour this year. You might as well go hell for leather, since come mid-April you will be obliged to slow down (albeit just temporarily).
The spring equinox reactivates financial issues. Here, a few easy shillings – and there is certainly cash to be had in hand – shouldn’t blind you to the need to nail down long term and joint financial arrangements with what may need to be unusual determination. Romance? A touch moody this week.
