Your Stars 14 March 2010

Posted on 13 March 2010

You get an early heads-up on Monday’s new Moon this weekend. I’m off on a week’s break and have filed early. Hope to be back next week, BA strike permitting.

Pisces

Tomorrow’s new Moon – at 9.01 pm – reboots not just your month but your year. You should be in a clamour for everything new, innovative and thrilling, especially if you have a birthday this week. If not, you’re either mature, mellow and happy… or in denial. The futurist planet Uranus dominates your ‘scope, interrupting cosy plans with radical ideas and oddly alluring newcomers. It’s a no-compromise month when you can put the hammer down and make things happen.

Work is back on the agenda; not tentative ideas but hard-graft and fully engaged projects you can ram down others’ throats. Romance is a similarly all-or-nothing scenario. Primrose tea with an aw-shucks crush just isn’t going to deliver, at least not until April.

Aries

Talk about a hiatus. You’re on the edge of a new deal, though you have little to show for it yet but a few squeaks of public approval. Tomorrow’s new Moon in your twelfth house rekindles clandestine affairs, spiritual matters and all things shadowy and unseen. Whatever you are cooking up in private is potent.

On the other hand, ruler Mars in your fifth favours brazen self-promotion and blagging, and impressing your passion on the lucky objects of your affection. Can you steer a middle course? The trick is not to push too hard, though your luck is in Tuesday/Wednesday, a great time to plant a seed of a new venture, or make a lucky encounter.

Taurus

You’re strongest in the outer world of wheels and deals. Personal trials – sequestered love affairs and family burdens – have to be endured until the tide changes (a mere fortnight or so). Tomorrow’s new Moon boosts contacts with radical politicians and outsiders (artists and astrologers for example). There is much to play for and fewer obstacles in your way than you might imagine. Network mercilessly. Friday and Saturday – when you enjoy an exalted Moon – are days to push your luck and agenda, not least with plutocrats who might fancy throwing a few bob your way. Leaving the house to parade your talents is pretty much de rigeur then.

Gemini

Very opportune moment for Twins looking to influence a professional decision,  insert themselves into a political process, or get stroppy with their neighbourhood committee. Planets at pivotal moments always favour the bold and the brisk, and you might usefully make that description your own. Tomorrow’s new Moon reboots your career. Even being cast into the wilderness by the powers that be looks like a blessing in disguise, and if you’re in employment, your most daring, controversial plans are those to promote. People who think you’re a blue-sky dreamer will come round later this year.

In the shorter term, for those of you who have been dwelling on one particular, heavy duty affair of the heart over the winter, a likely point of illumination now arrives. Single? Hang with the post-work crowd!

Cancer

Ready to rock and roll? Luna being your ruling celestial body, new and full Moons are always super-significant for Crabs. Tomorrow’s new Moon promises a welcome shake-up in your outlook, even if, for the moment, you have little tangible to show for it. People from other countries and cultures can have an impact on your personal life and play a beneficial role in your profession. Education is a card to play.

For singletons, romance – or at the least fiery temptation – may also come via your career. You maybe recall that attraction/repulsion thing that happens of a sudden.

Finances, the source of much vexation this year, finally start their turn-around with Mars. It’s an inch-by -inch, euro-by-euro climb back affair, but you’re on your way.

Leo

Prowling solo or getting more intimate? Mars, the planet of action, is back at the same point in your skies as last October and you are likewise returned to issues that engaged you then, especially those involving partners and siblings. The intervening months have given you time to ponder, fight, make up, or decide you’d rather be a lone Lion. Whatever your conclusions, tomorrow’s new Moon makes this spring a time to walk it like you talk it.

The tough part may be deciding if people you would like to ‘rescue’ are really distressed victims or self-pitying martyrs. Don’t extend them the advantage of doubt indefinitely.

Planets arriving in your kindred fire sign of Aries make this a good week for new places and faces; frisky, combative types fit your frame of mind.

Virgo

The central issue is justice, and how to achieve it when dealing with awful ex’es, desperate infatuations, or pompous enemies. You likely have to let go of some pride to bury the hatchet, to inject time and energy into partnerships that aren’t working and trust things come good. It isn’t a matter of blind faith; think back to how tough you had to be over the last couple of years (especially around your last birthday) and be expedient. Stop bailing out spongers. Stay out of legal bother.

That said, tomorrow’s new Moon and the weeks that follow come loaded with exciting folks who are just dying to meet you. You’d be mad to turn them all down without a cordial press of the hand.

Libra

Part of the quest for independence on which you are engaged (not solitude but self determination) requires you to have freedom of association; the choice of who you hang out with, which society you belong to… and which friends or associates you decide are no longer either! This is quite the moment for cutting the chord with those you have outgrown or people who simply rile you to distraction. As a previous post suggested; put ‘em to the test (of your devious devising) and see who’s found wanting.

There may be way too much work in hand to spare time for others (not your customary attitude, granted). Tomorrow’s new Moon favours a resourceful overhaul of infrastructure and routines. New skills, maybe net-orientated, could help. A health regime likewise.

Your ruling planet, Venus, in opposition has assorted messages. If you need a date, go find one. If you have a partner, be there with and for them. Keep quiet on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Scorpio

Opportunity is hammering at the door, you simply have to have the courage of your convictions and run with your best hunches. Professionally it’s still a gloves-off scrap – that’s your star, Mars, that’s glowing blood red high in the night sky – but politics, in the wider sense of the word, was never a simple matter, and you can do intrigue with the best! There’s plenty to play for, and a mix of obstinacy and idealism will see you through.

Tomorrow’s new Moon emphasises the latter quality, and suggests that breaking with your personal orthodoxy might be fruitful, whether we are talking romance or your favoured hobby/obsession. If you’re lonely, change the record, change your haunts. Contrary to reputation, Scorpios are conservative creatures; the next month, however, is about loosening up… even to people who might break your heart!

Sagittarius

Mixed messages. You certainly have issues to handle, the most pressing dating back to October/November last year. Professional decisions from that time are back in play, and while it seems you must take urgent action, you can afford to sit on your hands for a week or month longer. Comprehending the situation is more important than showing your hand, let alone speaking your mind in that famously blunt manner Sags have. You’re playing the long game, remember.

On the other hand, tomorrow’s new Moon favours a breezy shake-up in both career and domestic affairs, with the emphasis on the future, not the past. Radical ideas about the overhaul of Sagittarian Mansions (even total relocation) get a thumbs-up. Inklings about where you might take your work later this year are in the air.

Romance? Pretty peachy for true lovers and footloose singletons, especially Tuesday/Wednesday. Flirt, why not?

Capricorn

The Goat’s ability to endure situations and crises that would cause other signs to crumble is impressive. At present, though, ingenuity is as important as doggedness. Tomorrow’s new Moon favours inventiveness, intellectual agility (verging on the downright sly) and a willingness to play the radical rather than the conservative card. For those in education, law or the media, it’s a great time to kick off a new project. Travels may have more resonance than you expect.

Career matters remain in a state of recalibration, as your governor, Saturn, rewinds across the peak of your ‘scope. Take minor events seriously this week, as they could be giving you a clue about the future.

Romance? As the old song says, you can’t hurry love … or its resurrection. Good weekend approaching for a party, though.

Aquarius

Feast or famine? Tomorrow’s new Moon has decidedly mixed messages for your finances. Jupiter in your cash zone might be ‘lucky’, but the Big Guy has a habit of draining coffers as fast as they fill, and ‘easy come easy go’ is definitely not an Aquarian attitude. Investigate where you are leaking cash, and if it’s via your dearly beloved partner, politely but firmly turn off the tap.

One on one relationships – with your other half, surly boyfriend, difficult Leo, or snooty rival, among others – can now be put back on a more relaxed footing, if only by degrees (Mars in opposition remains at a crawl). The trick is to get grievances in the open without flipping your lid. Aquarian blue-stockings might have trouble with the headmaster; formality helps.

Otherwise it’s a fine week for flitting round the neighbourhood, calling up all and sundry, pulling a few legs and generally behaving  like a nutty Gemini. Even Aquarians aren’t all order.

    hi neil

first, many thanks for these posts and the observer articles all these years – great writings and comforting to read!

my birthday is 21 sept 1975. i read both virgo and libra (just in case!).

sorry but i need it spelt out – could you elaborate just a bit more on your reference to “solitude and self determination”? the fact that you have mentioned it more than once…

    thank you very much.

      @Siu

Your Sun is 27 degrees Virgo, so you aren’t a Libran (unless your ascendant is Libra), though you have a merry mix of planets in your birth chart. ‘Self-determination’: you’re in the midst of Saturn passing over your Sun, which is also being opposed by Uranus. This is unlikely to be a comfortable time; Saturn was also at this point last October. Momentous, life-changing events happen under Saturn transits, but they invariably call for more effort than we expected when we undertook a project. Decisions at this time are often challenging: to leave a relationship or not, to take a new job or not…You can refer back to 2005 (your Saturn return) to see what kind of issues arise. No matter how much we talk through these issues with loved ones and guides, ultimately, we have to take the decision ourselves. I think that’s what I meant by the ’solitude’ part. Under Saturn we are often forced to be self reliant, to accept and complete a heroic quest!

    Hi Neil
My work colleague and I were distraught when we could no longer read you in the Observer. Its great that we can continue to benefit from your pithy and uncannily accurate forecasts.

Look forward to reading this next week’s.

Hope you had a good break.

  • What would we do without you? So very, very grateful for all your help and guidance.

I’m so glad you’re posting horoscopes and I can get access to them, frankly (and I speak here as a Guardian reader) you were the best thing about The Observer. I haven’t had quite so much fun with that paper since you left.

Your horoscopes have always been remarkably resonant for me. I think it’s because you seem to have such a good understanding of the zeitgeist, it allows you to extrapolate and translate particularly well.

Anyway, I logged on this morning hoping for advice about something in particular, and there it was, about that very thing, and it was remarkably prescient. Thank you. Thank you very much.
